Ok, here's the deal. When I baught my new laptop, it came with a trial version of microsoft word 2007 on it. However, it only gives me a certain number of uses before I have to enter a product key. Now, my stepfather already owns microsoft word 2007 and has a product key, can I use his, or do I still have to pay for it myself and get my own product key?

You can use his. I think Microsoft only allows you to use a product key 3 times but if your uncle doesn't mind giving up one of his installations then go for it.

I think legally it is only suppose to be him that uses the keys...I don't think he's suppose to loan out a key. :) But, one way to find out is read the lisence agreement.

OK, technically it may be illegal but they're never going to hunt him down for one single installation. I used a product key that belonged to my parents and Microsoft hasn't sent any goons to hunt me down... yet. My point is that if he wants to use the key, it will work.

I didn't say it wouldn't work, I pointed out the legal aspect; that is all.
